We are fearless grantmakers who are here to disrupt traditional philanthropy and build community by re-distributing generational wealth through a replicable partnership model that is equitable, trust-based and responsive.
We employ a model of trust-based philanthropy with an emphasis on multi-year unrestricted funding.
We seek out grassroots organizations and community leaders and do research ahead of time on their work. We look for those individuals and organizations that are engaged in radical, on-the-ground movements, and may be less established and underfunded as a result.
We set up our funding process to be as transparent and obstacle-free as possible, so that it feels less like an arduous application and more like a collaborative effort. We place the emphasis on the support we are offering to the grantee vs entangling them in a series of tests that risk draining their time and energy from the work we are looking to facilitate.
Our grantmaking is centered around the question, “what do you need?” and we encourage grantees to come to us during the funding period with any unanticipated needs, pitfalls, detours and discoveries that arise.
We recognize that traditional philanthropy has caused harm and we will need to build deep relationships to authentically ask these questions.
We are always excited to fund the un-exciting parts of running an organization (employee salaries/benefits, administrative costs, etc.)
We build connections among our grantees and facilitate skill-sharing whenever it seems generative.
We lead with love.
We are self-critical and self-reflective. We question traditional structures of philanthropy/giving wherever possible and examine our own personal roles in all the systems that led us to the place we occupy in this work.
We strive for deep connection with grantees and the communities they serve and offer support “beyond the check.”
We recognize our biases and limitations and work to de-center ourselves (the original founders) and bring other voices to the decision-making table.
We continuously learn from other foundations that are doing radical work in line with our values and in turn, we strive to serve as a model to others in the field of philanthropy. We are working towards a future where grantees use our funding and practices as leverage with their other funders.
We respect rest more than deadlines. We commit to a limited group of grantees, and amplify our reach and message by sharing our process rather than overextending our capacity.
We focus on initiatives led by Black, Indigenous, queer, disabled, latinx/e, and other historically oppressed identities
